Rassie Erasmus has revealed that death threats were made to Cobus Reinach and the scrumhalf’s son after the Springboks knocked France out of the World Cup.
Reinach was part of the Bok starting lineup that claimed a one-point victory over tournament hosts France in the World Cup quarter-finals.
However, Erasmus revealed on Thursday afternoon that Reinach, who plays his domestic rugby for Montpellier, received a message on social media platform Instagram, threatening both him and his young son.
“Unfortunately, these threats were made to Cobus Reinach,” Erasmus posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“It’s not nice and upsets a mom and dad to see things like that about their boy. But we are not gonna whine, we will just move on!
“Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie (they don’t know what we know).”

Erasmus was responding to a post which claimed that the Bok director of rugby said “Ireland and France can still make it to the World Cup final, they just have to buy tickets”, which he categorically denied.
Reinach has retained his place in the starting lineup as the Springboks announced an unchanged matchday-23 for the World Cup semi-final against England in Paris.
