Schools rugby: Big wins for Jeppe, Oakdale

On a Saturday of schools rugby marked by stunning upsets, Oakdale beat Paarl Boys High, Jeppe held on to deny Monument and Grey College had to fight for a narrow victory against Outeniqua.

There were plenty of surprising results on another action-packed day of schools rugby across the country following the highly-competitive Easter festivals.

Grey College were pushed all the way by Outeniqua in a 19-17 victory for the Bloemfontein giants, who trailed 17-12 in the second half.

In Gauteng, Jeppe claimed a rare 30-24 win over Monument, while KES beat Pretoria Boys High 28-19 and Garsfontein and Affies were involved in an 83-point thriller. It was Garsfontein who came away from Affies with a 45-38 victory, for their second win in a row at their rivals’ home ground.

The surprises continued in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape, as Pearson stunned Selborne in a 25-22 victory, while Northwood beat Glenwood 29-22.

In the Western Cape, Paul Roos claimed a 39-24 win against Grey High in the featured Premier Interschools match, Durbanville continued their excellent season with a convincing 35-19 win over Rondebosch and Oakdale snatched a 20-17 win over Paarl Boys’ High.
